About

Committed to Better

The Sustainable Fox is a queer led coaching and consultation service specializing in waste reduction. We work with businesses to make sustainable actions more accessible in common spaces, connect with individuals to empower sustainable choices day to day, and provide community education on the intersectionality of environmentalism.

Want to experience a less wasteful work or home environment?

Get in touch today to find out how your organization can start being part of the solution!

We each wield power in everyday choices, but most choices are second nature: which often means we’re putting nature second, or third... The Sustainable Fox empowers making more decisions consciously using an intersectional lens, and connects folks with desire to operate more sustainably with tools to do so.

Mission
To prioritize environmental wellbeing through an intersectional lens and destigmatize interacting with our waste (thinking/talking about, as well as handling waste) by: removing entry point stigma (respecting where folks are at), spreading environmental and waste awareness (sharing language), connecting folks to local resources (building access), and connecting community (social support).

Fox, Who?

Hey! I'm Sadie, The Sustainable Fox!

I'm a queer white-settler, born on Snuneymuxw Territory and now residing on WSANEC Territory. Thanks for stopping by the Fox Den!

As the founder of The Sustainable Fox, I have made it my mission to spread awareness about ways individuals and organizations can reduce (nay, improve!) their environmental impact, with a focus on making waste reduction fun and accessible.

My eco-obsession began in earnest when my Fox-Brother challenged me to the Glass Jar Challenge: one month of putting all our trash in a jar. I won, but we both gained something greater. Since completing that challenge almost a decade ago, the way I see and think, and why I make the choices I do has changed drastically - along with the size of my trash bin.

I've been on a journey learning to live (my ever evolving version of) a sustainable life. This way of living brings me joy and satisfaction, but to get here I experienced frustration, disappointment, shame, and hopelessness often. These feelings can be overcome.

Living a minimal waste life isn't as hard as you think! Switching to a minimal waste life takes practice, the right resources, and a fox hole full of positivity... I'm here to help you navigate that path!

For the last five years, we've been working closely with Theatre SKAM to create a more sustainable future. We've helped them reduce waste at events and implement supportive, inclusive workplace recycling systems. SKAM has led by example, showing the local theatre community what is possible if we're willing to try and to devote adequate resourcing; possibilities like diverting 95% of event waste away from landfill! Big thanks and congratulations to Theatre SKAM for the amazing work you've put in!
